EDIT: Hi guys! I have been working on this for many hours, on and off. I've been adding more detail here, tweaking things there, trying to make it perfect. Please let me know what you think! I sure would like to place at least among the semifinalists! n_n But if I don't, it's okay! I still love how this turned out and I'm proud of it!
Essay for contest:
Is to speak visually to tell a story with an image, or to explain a picture with descriptive language? Today we live in a society of interconnectedness and advanced communication which allows the sharing of words and images across great distances. It is hard for me to speak about my own artwork on request. It is just something that comes naturally in this Artists comment section of the webpage. I try to let my work speak for itself, and that is why I emphasize in this pieces the use of rich colors and bold shapes.
What appeals to me most in an image are colors and hues that stand out and blend together at the same time. Complementary hues rival each other and close colors make beautiful harmony. Even so, the absence of color can speak for itself, usually for sadness or solemnity. In ChromaKnight I started with splashes of green, blue, orange, and red, yet still ended up with less than I started with. The color was my initial inspiration in this work, and it is the main theme revealed in the womans hair. I wanted to bring out the richness of the piece by using strong light and dark shades. In addition, I used texture to make the shapes pop out more.
The woman represents something that invokes the color. Color is all around us, but it takes a keen mind to put them together in a way that is visually appealing. My image speaks of how color inspires me in my art.
